WA Greens East Metropolitan representative, the Hon. Tim Clifford joins community leaders today at the City of Swan’s Annual Meeting of Electors in calling for greater transparency, financial accountability and proper consultation with community.

The meeting will be attended by a group of local residents who will be strongly challenging the City of Swan at the meeting. As well as concerns about the Midland Oval, residents are calling on the City of Swan to defer their rates review until after the Local Government Act and the Swan Valley Act reviews have taken place.

Tim Clifford commented that “Residents are outraged that their rates are being used for purposes that they don’t support and don’t know enough about.  The Council plans to spend in excess of $30m on purchasing land for the Midland Oval development, but residents don’t feel they’ve been properly consulted about this expenditure.

“I strongly encourage the City of Swan to listen to residents, to go back to the drawing board and come back with a plan that meets the needs of the region, takes into account resident’s concerns and which maintains an appropriate amount of green space for Midland.”

Tim Clifford will gather with residents at the Midland Town Hall today at 5.00 pm prior to the meeting to be held at 5.30 pm.
