Greens (WA) representative for Transport, the Hon. Tim Clifford MLC has questioned the Minister for Transport’s claim that the Murdoch Drive Connection will provide better access for to the Murdoch Activity Centre.
“Western Australians deserve better,” said Mr Clifford. ”After fighting Roe 8, a ‘road to nowhere’ last year, the public deserves to be assured that this road includes contemporary traffic modelling and smart public transport options, and that the project developers have truly listened and acted on public concerns.
“I am not convinced that this road will deliver the desired outcomes of better access to the Murdoch Activity Centre and the Fiona Stanley Hospital. Unfortunately the Government hasn’t provided clear and transparent information that would allow the public to make this conclusion. ” Mr Clifford said.
When asked questions in Parliament in November last year, the Minister revealed that the same approvals for Roe 8 are being used for this project, which is located in a different area and is of a vastly different scale.
In December, several petitions were lodged at Parliament by community groups asking the Government to develop a new plan for the Murdoch Drive Connection on the basis that it is not fit for purpose, will increase ambulance travel times, increase traffic flows and does not address public transport demand.
