East Metro MLC Tim Clifford is calling on the Local Government Minister to investigate the actions of the City of Swan regarding the Midland Oval Redevelopment Masterplan.
Despite a Special Meeting of Electors scheduled for June 18 to discuss the extension of The Avenue through the Oval, the City of Swan has given developer De Mol approval to construct the road. The works could begin as early as next week.
“I am incredibly concerned about the approval of this extension, especially considering the business plan for the redevelopment is still out for public comment.
“The community has been campaigning against inappropriate development on the Oval for over 25 years. There have been several Special Meetings of Electors regarding the Midland Oval. It has become abundantly clear that the City of Swan have not taken the community’s concerns seriously.
“Residents are extremely upset that $32.5 million has been spent on the development without a business plan and without proper community consultation. Community concerns about the lack of public open green space have not been properly addressed.
“I urge the City of Swan to listen to the community and immediately halt works on the Midland Oval.
“I am calling on the Local Government Minister, Hon David Templeman, to investigate the actions of the City of Swan as I believe the Local Government Act may not have been followed. I encourage community members to do the same.”
