East Metro MLC and Greens WA spokesperson for urban bushland, Tim Clifford will attend an event organised by local community groups and the Conservation Council WA to help raise awareness of the risk to a critical habitat for the vulnerable Red Tailed Black Cockatoo on Thursday morning in Kenwick. Tim will stand with community who are rallying to learn more about the construction undertaken by Linc Property contractors and what might be done to protect this area from future damage.
“Our urban bush is being destroyed at an alarming rate and Linc Property do not have the environmental or social licence to continue.
“It’s time this destruction stopped. Our wild places so close to our city centres are critical to the survival of our diverse flora and fauna but are also important tourist attractions. The government is spending millions on tourism for the Swan Valley, and yet here we have a developer mindlessly destroying habitat that will affect the future of one the state’s iconic species.”
“It’s ludicrous that these contractors can get away with putting their profit margin ahead of the future of this species. Australia now has one of the highest extinction rates in the world.
“Just a few months ago the government admirably committed more than $62,000 in funds to support the preservation of the Swan River and yet, here we have a vital part of this ecosystem being threatened. This slow destruction of our urban bushland must stop.”
